It may have been his labor of love but he didn't really know what he was doing, obviously. And I think the public (read peasants) was better off without an organization that was burning a hole in their lord's pocket.
And Dave? I know I, as your older bro, should have been there to watch you die but I was off doing what we all should've been doing: making our fortunes from war. 'Tis the definition of a mercenary troop, after all.
