http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080130/ap_on_el_pr/edwards
John Edwards bows out of the race. He was my top choice for the Dems. As the article linked above states, Edwards was the first to serve up plans for universal health care, the first to call on Congress to put a stop to the war, and he lead the charge against lobbyists having waaay too much sway in Washington.
While I loved what Edwards was campaigning for, the more practical side of me figured he was our best bet. I understand that Clinton and Obama are incredibly popular with the Democratic party, but that's not enough. What bothers me is that Edwards was the only Democratic candidate that consistantly, time and time again could beat out every one of the Republican candidates in country-wide polls. In other words, while the Dems LOVE Clinton and Obama, the COUNTRY overall indicated that Edwards, not Hilary or Obama, would be a shoe-in if he was the Democratic nominee. With either Hilary or Obama, it's gonna be a drawn out fight between the Democratic nominee and the Republican nominee, because, let's face it, some people in our country just won't vote for a Black Man or a Woman.
Still, I'm pulling for either of those two. I just hope enough Americans don't see a Black man or a Woman, but instead see a Person with policies that would benefit our country the most. _________________ "Addiction can neither be created nor destroyed, it can only be changed."

Former senator John Edwards Wednesday dropped out of the Democratic White House race transforming it into a straight fight between bitter rivals Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.
AND
On the Republican side, former New York mayor Rudolph Giuliani also quit in favor of endorsing long-time pal John McCain.
Soooooo..... We've got a (Mormon vs McCain) vs (1st woman vs 1st black man)
I'm deadly afraid we're going to have a Mormon president soon. If you thought Bush was conservative.... just you wait. This chaps gonna try to outlaw abortion, completely remove stem cell research, and who knows, maybe go as far as prohibition. _________________

And no Green/black Tea... no coffee... no cigs...
I gotta say... I like McCain even though I'm mostly a leftist. It seems to me we'll def. have a republican president unless America shocks me and enough people don't vote against a black guy or a woman.

I like McCain too. But I like him in the "Better him than the others". I'm hoping for that shocker moment. _________________ "Addiction can neither be created nor destroyed, it can only be changed."

It may not be so much that people see a Black Man or a White Woman, but both at the same time, causing various groups to side with either and start splitting up the votes. At whatever time one of them took the final nomination they'd be sealing rifts and regrouping at a time when the Republicans were going full steam. _________________ <(@_@<), <(@_@)>, (>@_@)>, <(@_@)>, <(@_~)>, <(@_@)>, <(@_@<) |

Personally, I'm an 'issue voter' - I have a particular issue that is most important to me politically, and a few secondary issues, and I look at how the candidates stand on that issue/issues. Beyond that, I don't care if you're black or white or blue, male or female or an alien from space. I think color and gender have nothing to do with how qualified you are as a president.
My stance on various issues generally tend to align with the more liberal or democratic viewpoints, so I more often tend to vote for those types of candidates, though I'm registered as an 'independent.'
I do think I agree with Pars, though, that the Democratic candidates seem to divide voters among themselves, causing setbacks when it comes time to face their counterparts in the election.
To be honest, I think there ought to be more than two political parties, because I don't think the two we have now really represent the different interests people have or reasons they vote. The D's and R's have become too similar and too insular, and don't really reflect the people anymore, IMO. |

Just for your interest
Chile's current president is a woman, she does an awful work, just like any other male president. Anyway, people was so worried for not being considered sexist that many voted for her just for not being it.
In the elections before that one, there was a female candidate from the communist party, she had such a strong character that nobody cared that she was a woman.

All politicians are horrible lying pieces of crap... They are all going to say what people what to hear, then once in office either try to make it into the history books by fucking with our country, or sit back like a mouse since their name is already in the history books and enjoy living in the white house.
When I turn 35... I'm gonna run for president.... be super nice to everyone.... get in... Eliminate the evil EPA and override all state gun laws so that criminals can't buy guns... and good law abiding citizens are allowed to buy the most bad ass machine gun they want... even in the Nazi state of California...
I think I just pissed a lot of people off
And just to clear things I would vote for a woman... just not THAT woman... _________________ Monkey of the technical type.

It's gonna be John McCain for the Reps for sure. The Dems are still up in the air. Very close between Hilary and Obama. _________________ "Addiction can neither be created nor destroyed, it can only be changed."

I don't care anymore really. I'd prefer Hillary because then Bill gets 4/8 more years =). But McCain is good too. Not a big fan of Obama. But honestly all 3 are better than Romney. THANK GOD he's gone. I'm not moving to Canada guys!! WOOHOOOO _________________

If Romney won. Fuck ya. I was not going to sit here for another 4 to 8 years with a Mormon president who's more conservative that George W Fucking Bush. I have a few friends that are Mormon. And they're really sweet people. But jesus if they're not brain washed beyond all belief. This fucker would have been so much worse than Bush. When he felt he was established he'd attempt stupid shit such as bring abortion back into the light and attempt to abolish it. Fuck who knows maybe prohibition again. I'd rather live in Canada and get free health care, pay a bit more in taxes, and just pretend to say Aye alot. _________________
