Yes and no. Clinical definitions are only useful in a court of law and academia. In reality you only put yourself on a very slippery slope if you try to split hairs that way. Alcoholics do it all the time. They perceive themselves as "social drinkers" when in fact their debauchery is obvious to everyone else. Furrie, furrvert, furrdophile - call it what you will, it's all the same to me.

Beats me about the debauchery thing. I do know that I've used many an excuse for my own vices. Really don't care one way or the other, I just toss out a "socially acceptable" reason and the prodding seems to stop there. I could just as easily send the comments out in the other extreme and make it so whoever is asking me about a particular behavior will NEVER ask again.

I remember that one of Dee's friends was never exposed to the concept of furries. Poor guy was a mess.
