So anyone up for a good discussion on some new firearms tech? New bullets that do the exact same thing an earlier version was outlawed for. The bullet impacts a target and bends outward from the center of the slug, creating 1) an umbrella which creates a much larger wound channel than the standar hollow point, 2) a disgusting rifling through whatever it hits. With the combination of these 2 effects anyone hit somewhere near center mass should be dead very shortly. So for some reason these are now legal due to someone being smart enough to wiggle around California gun laws. Very Happy Gotta love lawyers...

Why do we need better bullets? I want lasers! Freakin' lasers and...and...flying cars, damn it! If someone breaks into my home, I want to practice my God-given American right to burn a hole right through his chest.

I don't know, Paul. There are handguns out there that do the job just as well as any "disintergrator"

Also, seeing as people are such dumbasses on the ground, I for one am glad for the abscence of flying cars.

Can you imagine? A head on collision on the ground means the people in the cars are in a world of hurt. Now that same collision up several yars in the sky means there's a very good chance that some people on the ground will shortly also be in pain.

But on the subject of Guns. Yeah, gun laws are always going to be heated debates, and there's always smart lawyers and gun makers that'll find ways around any opposition. Apply the same to anti-gun politicians and lobbyists finding ways to put down new and old gun tech.

The goodnews Arturo is that there are in fact lasers. Military issue hand held lasers. A friend of mine is a lot better at this sort of know how, but no lie. The military have several weapons that most of the world doesnt know about. They also are making a missile defense system that shoot out in space to catch nuclear missiles before they re-enter the atmosphere. Russia and the US are currently fighting because we want to put a couple in Romania and other places in europe. ( I cant remember exactly where)

Man, I believe it. That missile defense system you're talking about has been around for a long time, actually. The Reagan administration called it Star Wars but I'll bet it was around way before that.

"The homosexual is right!" -Kevin and Bean show audio drop

But yeah, Its a variation of the "kill vehicle system" that looks like it has a better chance and Putin is now threatening that should any system like that come into production Russia will be fielding a new missile system that will be able to bypass it.

As for lasers and such....Trust that I (and the group in general for that matter) are more than decently versed in "future" military technology in the works. The military has 5 applied energy systems in the works. From a basic "heat simulation" system that triggers the pain nerves in a persons skin to simulate being on fire (its for crowd control) to another that can hit people through walls to knock them unconscious. "The bouncing laser" for hitting around corners (set to work with the various guncam systems should it go into production).

Not counting various smaller satellite projects and joint venture phases of research most of the work happens at Fort Detrick in Maryland where they house a whole alphabet soup of centers (among others: Advance Warfare Research Center, Army Research Center, Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center). Unfortunately though, alot of the "really cool projects" in the works during the late 90s up to the past few years have had their budgets slashed or cut thanks to the overspending on the current Iraqi conflict, including the famous "Land Warrior" initiative, which has splintered into several smaller side-projects to try and salvage what has been done so far.

Decent little place to read up and cool upcoming things from various fields:
http://www.technovelgy.com/
Its dedicated to those research projects/new technologies/facts that mirror those within the works of science fiction (like smart wheels from "Snowcrash")

"Land Warrior?"

Sounds like the title for a movie or vid game. Elaborate, Pars. I'm interested.

Time to check yet another law that makes no sense. A .50 caliber (1/2 inch round) bolt action rifle is outlawed currently. Several ways around it.
1. You bought the rifle before the law was passed this year.
2. You pieced it together by yourself.
3. You know someone that can explain the legal manuevering needed.
And why do they outlaw .50 caliber rifles?
Because "criminals" shouldn't be able to buy them. So the California government is telling me that a random criminal can afford the $5,000+ price tag on one of those rifles, yeah that makes a whole lotta sense to me.
Next time on Gun Laws: How to build an AR-15

I think the most interesting invention (gun wise anyway) to as of late is the smart guns that can tell if it's their owner firing or not. Going to be cop issue, so that there is no more being able to take a cops gun away and use it.

Bad thing is if your partner needs to borrow your gun he/she cant.

Yeah I gave up on that when I realized I only wanted to be a cop so I could carry a gun around all the time.
Anyhow, on with the next installment. Ahem.
To own an AR-15 (The civilian M-16) you must purchase the bottom end or receiver of the rifle first, get the dros and then piece the rest of the thing together on your own.
As long as you put one together by the end of this year it's legal, putting on together after that would be illegal somehow.
Also it is illegal for any gun store or shop to sell a fully built and ready to go AR-15 in California, however it is COMPLETELY legal to sell you each individual piece AND for them to build it for you as long as you bring in all the pieces separately.
I really love the gun laws here, SO stupid. Very Happy

"I'm sorry, Dr. Evile, we cannot sell you this Dooms Day Device. However, we can sell you the power cell, the converter, this remote acess, this kinetic enhancer, and your choice of black, blue, or pink casing AND put it together for you... but only if you walk out of the shop with each piece seperately, and then bring each piece back in individually."
