Blarg. I just got round to reinstalling Windows and fitting a new hard drive when my power supply goes and decides it can't run my PC properly. For those that know/care, my 12V rail (only 1) is running at 10V, and the PSU itself (rated at 400W continuous) is running a system substantially more demanding than that. Due to this, I can rarely keep the system stable long enough to do anything on it, so now you should know why I'm pretty quiet these days.
Hmmmz, I now feel like a certified whinger.
PS - if anyone knows a good PSU manufacturer, could they please point me in the right direction? _________________ Blake: "Tally ho, chocks away old chap"

I always got the impression that the tech monkeys were undeserving of capital letters, but I could be wrong. Either way, I think this unit is about fritzed (you knwo shit's bad when you start using words like that...) so I reckon I should be getting a new one some time soon. _________________ Blake: "Tally ho, chocks away old chap"

I'm running on a 550W PSU, sadly I can't remembe the brand name, but it's was probably a crap one as it cost about $50 and as far as I can tell, is pretty poor quality. What kinda supply would you recommend run this lot -
AMD Athlon X2 4600+
2GB 667MHz RAM
2 IDE HDDs (one 6GB, other 400GB)
nVidia 8800GTS 320MiB (overclocked about 20%) (going SLI sometime soon)
I'm asking mainly because I'm buying a new PSU in the enxt few days, and with the variety available I can't really spot a lemon. Video cards and CPUs I know back to front (I only got an AMD because I'm a fanboy), but PSUs aren't among my strong points. _________________ Blake: "Tally ho, chocks away old chap"

I believe that turn of phrase originated in the British Isles (though I don't know from where). _________________ Conan! What is best in life?

Yes, your local brit did say "I reckon". After you asking that I tried thinking about it in the various different American accents I've had the mispleasure to hear and it didn't sound right. I dunno why, it just didn't seem to work properly. And BTW, it is British.

Chuffed = happy.
It doesn't actually mean happy, but that's about as close as I can think of.
[edit] A google searchy on "define chuffed" came up with "very pleased". I guess that about does it. [/edit] _________________ Blake: "Tally ho, chocks away old chap"
