Oh, Dipsosis!

Remember that horrible "vato" voice I would do on Ventrillo? Everyone thinking it was "authentic?" Man, I can't even FAKE a proper Mexican-esque way of speaking.

Note: "Speaking clearly" is not the same as "Speaking concisely or coherantly". Dee, Joel, and some of the others can attest that I get flustered and flounder a bit if I don't know the subject being discussed. But when I do know what I'm talking about, it flows just fine.

That's what I was talking about when I was explaining to you that I spend a lot of time consuming information and mulling it over, in order to form a cogent stance to fire off whenever I have an opportunity to pontificate. Diction also helps in verbal conflict, but less so than a well formed argument founded upon unassailable premises. It's when you impulsively dive into topics that you haven't pondered that you get into trouble. That's when I turn my attention on you, and grill you until you shriek, "I JUST DON'T KNOW DEE! THAT'S JUST HOW I FEEL AND I CAN'T EXPLAIN IT!!!" Wink

And dude, your "vato" voice is more than sufficient to snooker people from, say, Indiana. Laughing Remember, there are over a hundred million people (at least) in this country who's sole contact with Mexican culture is Taco Bell.

Hey, even I know Taco Bell is not mexican. It's Puerto Rican, right?
No accent from Dave and I talk to him a lot. The lisp is cute and plenty of americans have one.
Just because your white doesn't mean you can't speak spanish (in fact that is why i tried to learn).
And mock him all you want from outside...at least outside viewing distance.

Well, I think there's something to be said for picking up what's around you. As Dave has mentioned, his mother primarily speaks Spanish, which is how they communicate with each other. So to me it seemed like there was always that hint of an accent, because of having to use the language so much growing up.

I'm wondering if perhaps it's changed though. I haven't heard Dave's voice since he came to install Photoshop on my comp, which means early 2004.

Shocked

I'm afraid to ask for an explanation.

And you're right, Siren. Growing up I spent a good amount of time at home and so I picked up a bit of an accent. But I also spent a good amount of time around people with "no accent" and built a good foundation off of that, since I would hang out with you all and not gravitate towards a click of of what others call my own kind, as seems to be the norm in high schools overhere Sad (the black kids stick together, asians too, etc.)

Then I went to college and started working, spending less and less time at home and more and more time with a variety of people. Not to mention a lot of my jobs revolved around me speaking to people from all walks of life. So yeah, I did pick up what was around me, Siren Wink

PS. for those who remember this comment (one that I know Dip suffered through as well), through sheer exposure I can now decipher what people from the deep south are saying to me. My brain still hurts from the effort, though.

I don't even know where that quote comes from. Do I really want to know? I don't think so.

Apparently I do, since its supposed to be my quote <shrugs>

Still......going to Dee's place carries the unfortunate side effect of being served a "Korean Sandwich"... Sad

Look, regardless of whether I like it or not its still unfortunate:P

Still, regardless of the penalties its always a good time when we hang out as a group.....and Paul? You've been missing the uber-playful Joel getting into fondle-contests with Dee......no winners, only the scarred....
