It's worth it, assuming you can handle all of the crazy ideas that Warren Ellis vomits into his scripts on a regular basis. |

I love how all the best writers are so overwhelming with crazy that everything they write takes like a hard study to understand. It's amazing. _________________ ~jynx~

Well, I wouldn't say that as an absolute. It's not like Nextwave or Global Frequency are not straight forward. They're just out of their gourd. |

Warren Ellis' stuff is pure high concept coolness, but not particularly "crazy". That designation goes to Grant Morrison's work, some of which he clearly wrote in a pharmaceutically altered state. I mean that literally. It's when he walks the razor's edge, teetering between impenetrable confusion and eye opening wonder that he's most interesting. It may not be for everyone, but he's currently doing one helluva job on All-Star Superman.
As for Marvel vs. DC, at this precise moment, Marvel is out delivering their Distinguished Competition. Both publishing arms are heavily exploring the concept of flawed heroes, distrust, and Pyrrhic victories. These themes are much better suited for Marvel, as their characters were designed from the ground up to encompass these realities. The Fantastic Four bickered and fought amongst each other, Spidey had money and girl problems, Iron Man's a lush, Hulk smashed, the X-Men were feared, and on and on. The only thoroughly noble hero is Cap, and he's dead now. DC heroes, in contrast, are iconic. They are pure archetypes that form an idealistic pantheon of faultless demi-gods, and the attempt to humanize them is much harder to pull off. _________________ "Face it Dee, I'm the better woman."

True. But I still like the vertigo line up better. I mostly read what i'm told to for fear of getting hook on something that is horribly bad, but I find that i can pick up a vertigo comic and get at least something from it. Who knows maybe after i read more I might switch sides. _________________ ~jynx~

Vertigo is AMAZING, but stop trying to throw a wrench into our fanboyism. We're talking about who's got the better tough guys who wear their underwear on the outside. _________________ "Face it Dee, I'm the better woman."

In the category of people who have their shorts on outside of their tights, DC totally blows Marvel away. Hell, until very recently Batman himself was part of that club. _________________ <(@_@<), <(@_@)>, (>@_@)>, <(@_@)>, <(@_~)>, <(@_@)>, <(@_@<) |

Yes, I'm sure DC would like to "blow" Marvel away in that regard. You have to admit, the whole underwear-on-the-outside thing was (and still is, in some instances) pretty lame. _________________ Conan! What is best in life?
