Soccer. Football. Doesn't matter what you call it there's still one major thing about it that is known far and wide across the globe (no, not the rioting). Its the sudden rush of excitement as the ball nears either guarded net and a player makes a kick in some spectacular fashion, the goalie making a desperate play to intercept the ball, and the sudden climax of tension and relief as the entire stadium/audience as one person realizes that the ball has gone /in/. People scream, cheer, and cry. And the announcer? He takes in a deep breath and lets out a single, long scream: GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooOOOooOOOOooOOOO
OOOoooOOAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLL!!!!!
Its kind of freaky how long and loud these guys can keep that up, but its also pretty damn cool. Thing I've noticed recently though, is that several announcers have taken it upon themselves to change the way of things. Instead of the above exclamation we get: Goal! Goal! Goal! Goal! Goal! Goal! Goal! Goal! Goal! Goal! Goal! Goal! Goal! Goal! Goal! Goal! Goal! Goal! Goal!
Goal! Goal! Goal! Goal! Goal! Goal! Goal! Goal! Goal! Goal! Goal! Goal!
Its....I don't know. Doesn't carry the same force to it. Perhaps its just because I'm used to the single long shout that it doesn't seem as "cool", but the problem with this one is while just shouting a long "GOoooOOOAAAL!" requires every square inch of scrotum you can muster, the repeated "Goal!" can end up sounding a bit mono-tone and not very lively.
Just an observation, and I have noticed that some of these announcers using the new "Goal!" shout sometimes break into the old-school one. _________________ <(@_@<), <(@_@)>, (>@_@)>, <(@_@)>, <(@_~)>, <(@_@)>, <(@_@<)

I don't like Soccer all that much. I DO respect tradition... and what's cool.
"GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAL!!!!!"
That's cool.
"goal, goal, goal, goal, goal, goal..."
Not cool. _________________ "Addiction can neither be created nor destroyed, it can only be changed."

As we all know, most of the world, thats who. But it goes beyond watching. The "GOOOAALL!" shout goes beyond just that. Its a deep seated cultural thing which pierces the the veil of nationalism (at about 94 dbs) and strikes a chord deep within all who either partake, or just know.... Or if you're a white American (like Joel:P) its just something that's kind of cool in some odd way. _________________ <(@_@<), <(@_@)>, (>@_@)>, <(@_@)>, <(@_~)>, <(@_@)>, <(@_@<)
