Arturo makes an interesting point there. Anyway, Is that a soda can explaining to us why Dave's not drawing teh strip? Also I will be expect a strip that ends with Dan talking to Dee because that is what is on the screen. Nicely down though Dave. _________________ ~jynx~

Dammit! Stop being so observant :p
No, that drawing on the screen was me just playing around... although now that I think of it, the screen should have given a clue to the next strip... oh well. _________________ "Addiction can neither be created nor destroyed, it can only be changed."

It's not my fault that I'm observant. It's in my nature. _________________ ~jynx~

BTW, Dee and Arturo (I THINK Dan has as well, but can't recall) have told me that my sketches are sometimes preferrable to my inked work. Apparently, my sketches have a lot of character or some such dealie that I just don't quite understand.
Arturo, care to comment? _________________ "Addiction can neither be created nor destroyed, it can only be changed."

"Boo-yah! You're ass just got Hosted!!"
"Wait...what? What does that even mean?....."
For the three people not aware this term is in reference to online play in "Gears of War" in which the person setting up the game "The Host" is conferred "magical powers" over time/space and damage due to the fact that the net code for that game isn't exactly perfect. Trying to take on the Host is generally not the smartest/safest of propositions.
As an example: Dave sees Neil (a stingy bastard who tries to be host/claim the boomshot weapon regularly:P). Neil is the Host. Dave rushes the host and empties a entire clip into him before closing to chainsaw him in half. Most mere mortals would fall under such an onslaught....but not The Host, oh no. What would be likely to happen at this point is that after expending the clip and starting to rev the chainsaw (the main infantry rifle's bayonet) against Neil, Dave's character's head would magically explode to a shotgun blast that Dave may or may not have even heard. So Dave's down after failing his offensive gambit, and The Host runs off to claim the largest explosive infantry weapon in the game and maybe teamkill a few people as acceptable losses in an attempt to take out a single enemy combatant....Because you see, /this/ Host doesn't really care about if you're "in the way" or not. Just sayin'... _________________ <(@_@<), <(@_@)>, (>@_@)>, <(@_@)>, <(@_~)>, <(@_@)>, <(@_@<) |

... <sigh> so true...
Mike can attest to Niel's "acceptable losses" strategy. _________________ "Addiction can neither be created nor destroyed, it can only be changed."

As for the question of Dave's sketches... One of the aesthetics which pleases me most is the principle of the elegance of simplicity. You could get very complicated and create a complex abstract shape using lots of colors and fabric/substances/textures.... or you could take a simple line and create a pleasing shape be it a straight angle or a soft curve. A simple, clean effort can elicit so much with what can be perceived as so little, but that very fact makes that one single element that much more important and crucial.
Inked and colored is all well and good and much of his work looks great that way, but with some art a shaded pencil sketch seems to have so much more character and carry a much heavier emotional weight to it. You can lighten the lines and create something elusive and ephemeral, or darken pools of shadow and imply threats and sadness by just changing the placement and degree of light and dark.
So yeah, I like penciled works better than colors sometimes:) _________________ <(@_@<), <(@_@)>, (>@_@)>, <(@_@)>, <(@_~)>, <(@_@)>, <(@_@<) |
