With the looming shutdown of the Hollywood movie making machine thanks to all the nasty crunching noises being made by the various Guilds, movie companies have decided that now is the time for action. Specifically, in anticipation of the various strikes they have to look forward to, the major studios have taken whatever projects and pitches they might have had on their desks/shelves and gone ahead and given the green light (fast tracking) to many of them in hopes of being able to complete something before everything stops in order to actually have product to hold them over during the long negotiations process. Word has been sent out to all the casting agencies in town that they need actors/production people and they need them /now/.
What this means to you is that many of the projects you may have seen on movie lists before as being possibilities or just a script with no one attached may be coming to a theater near you much sooner than you thought. Also, some properties which may not have had a chance to be put through for film (either because they themselves were a bit more obscure than their competition or simply because all resources were already alloted to Mega-Blockbusters) have a much better chance of actually happening at all. Thats the good news.
The bad news is that since this is a bit of a rush to "get things done" the final product may end up reflecting that. This eliminates the usual courting and optioning and negotiating with the usually busy higher tier talent that may be interested but needs to see how this could actually be good for them, and instead makes a rush for whomever may be available at the time, regardless if they're the best choice for it. With less time to shoot and get it done the majority of the polish would have to be done during post production, if at all.
Other bad news? This rush has pushed "The Fast and the Furious 4" into pre-production....
Which brings us to the point of this post. As stated earlier, the major studios have put out a call for people. To do so they have created lists of projects and the (possible, in some cases) directors/production staff attached to them and circulated them to talent agencies. Who have then gone and posted them up for people to sign up for. Here now, I bring you the current (as of this posting) overall list as compiled by Coming Soon. Just hit up the link for the full list.
Feel free to discuss/lament/bitch and moan about it here at your leisure:) _________________ <(@_@<), <(@_@)>, (>@_@)>, <(@_@)>, <(@_~)>, <(@_@)>, <(@_@<) |
