It turns out that Mr. Pratchett has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's. I figure that's a good excuse as any to pick up his Discworld novels. That and they're funny as hell. Just... skip the first three... at least until you read some of the others. I recommend starting with Guards! Guards!

Why? I liked "The Light Fantastic" and "The Colour of Magic"

I read The Light Fantastic when I was 10 and I figured it out enough to very nearly die laughing in the back seat of my parents station wagon as we went on our "Family Vacation".

If anything, I'd say stick to the Old stuff, the new stuff gets pretty formulaic after a while.

It only seems formulaic because Pratchett has had a chance to hammer out his Discworld. Initially, he's all over the place because he has nothing to ground him. Now he knows what Ahnk Morpork, Uberwald, and the Ramptops are like, as well as the world's denizens.

Vimes for the Win, BTW

In his defense, he's read Guards! Guards! That's the book he loaned me to get me hooked.

In my defense I've read up to "The Last Continent" (somehow skipping over "Hogfather), and own "Thud!". I just haven't gotten around to reading the newer stuff and /like/ the idea of the Discworld up to that point. At some point later there most likely be reading of the newer things, but for now I'm fine. The GURPS Discworld books gave me a nice insight to advancements and happenings.

To give you an idea of just how much I've read (and have yet to) here is a link to the Discworld Wikipedia Page Just scroll down for the reading list
