So I lived in Humboldt for 2 years... so much street trash there asking for weed, cigs, and anything else... that I'm damn near immune to it. Sometimes I help out, but if people are annoying, fuck 'em.

Now... one thing that pisses me off is people who ask for help and when you say you CAN'T... they don't let up. Example was this last Monday at a grocery store parking lot.

Lady with her family in the car
"Sir, can you help us? These are my children and we're poor and need food."
me: Sorry I don't have any cash.
"Well how bout you just buy us groceries then?"
me: I'm seriously broke myself right now, I'd help if I could
"Please, anything will help. I know you have something" -she started getting bitchy
"How about your little friend over there, does he have anything?" -gesturing to Arturo

THEN... I found the golden ticket. I said fuck it and went for the ultimate "fuck off."

me: Look, my father passed away earlier this month so I can't help you, I'm broke.

I've never seen a car speed off that fast before in my life.

See, I know people got it bad, but I got my own bullshit to deal with. Fucking beggars are okay, whatever... as long as when you don't/can't help somebody, they don't fucking get in your face. Makes me into an angry panda bear.

I like the guy who walked up to us at Tommies asking for cash. Arturo states he has no cash (true). Guy tries to cut him down saying that "your heart might be closed, but you don't speak for them". I've never seen Arturo "politely" tell someone to fuck off.

About a month ago I was with la madre and sister in Pasadena. Bum comes up to us. My sister responds, and the bum tells her, "I'm not talking to you, I'm talking to him (pointing at me)." I was all dressed up so I LOOKED like I had cash, but when your sister works in fashion, a few bucks go far. I was broke, she had the cash, the joke was on him. Still, he started going off on us for being privilaged and then essentially said my mom, who's right there with me, did a terrible job in raising her kids. 1. Told him to fuck off (short version), 2. you don't tell someone who was raised on like... 5k a year anual income about being privilaged without hitting a nerve.

So yeah, I hear you Mike. My heart breaks when I see people in need, but it quickly closes up when I CAN'T help and then they throw shit in my face.

Yeah, that guy at Tommy's was a pushy bastard. The awesome part was when he started putting me down for playing with my DS Lite after I stated that I had no cash and figured it would be better if I wasn't in the way so he could ask the guys who might have some. My bad and all that...

On the way out of the supermarket on that day with Mike we heard the people in said car getting into a rather loud shouting match with someone shortly before they burnt rubber and left squealing out of the parking lot.

I love it when bums, beggars and other people hurting for help come to you and ask you for money.

I like to flip the tables on them.

There have been more run ins with bums but that one just comes to mind. I am sure I will have more stories of a different type when I get back from Vegas this weekend.

I have a question, if that lady cant afford to feed her family why does she have a car? Maybe it's just me but cars are expensive and though i understand hating to take the bus it's better then not having food.

Man.. the worst part is a lot of them make pretty good money... I gotta work everyday to get what I have and I still have a lot of shit to pay off and not too much left over... Picking feilds and washing dishes is a shitty job... but it is better than begging

"better" can be relative.

Like you pointed out, some of the "beggers" make $100 a day consistantly. If I can find the news clip I'll post it, but I'm lazy, so don't bet on it.

You just need a catch. If you have a sad pathetic looking kid next to you and you have a sign saying I just want to feed my son/daughter whatever. OR the ultimate. Have a puppy or two sleeping in front of you. Have it look hungry. Melt peoples hearts. People would rather go hungry themselves than let a puppy starve.

The coolest guy I've ever seen is a regular in Downtown by our office.

He has a suit... an overcoat... a pipe... a stroller... also, the stroller has a RABBIT in it.

If he ever asked for money, I'd give him my fucking paycheck.
