DC always has their reset button. Infinity Crisis. Every couple of years or so the universe goes through it and everything basically reboots. Back in the day Supergirl died to Infinity Crisis because her popularity went down. Her popularity came back up with Michael Turner's artwork and Pooof this last Infinity Crisis Superboy died instead of Supergirl. YAY!!!

I don't know.....seems that Aunt May has been doing enough Dying/Coming back for her and Ben...and of course the perennially "out of ideas" spider man writers have dicked with bringing back Peter's parents. They always turn out to be clones/robots/whatever, though.

Also, there's like 15 super-girls and while our clone Superboy (from the whole "Reign of the Supermen" thing) did die and the original sort of stopped existing, there is another one from a alternate Earth that was destroyed during the reformations of the universe that is still running around and beat the 1950's Superman to death (a battle in which our Superman barely survived).

That Superboy is presently imprisoned in the heart of a artificial yellow sun (he's kind of crazy and and a "Anakin"-class whiny bitch) which is guarded on a contant basis by a rotating team of Green Lanterns. Of course the Guardians are also holding him for his own reasons and this will all come to a head at the end of Countdown, no doubt.
