Can I just say what everyone is thinking for a minute here?! What happened at Va tech is a big deal. It's sad, horrifying and is real news. It is what everyone should be talking about, discussing, and analysizing to try to learn from so it won't every happen again. So please...I mean please tell me why Anna Nicole's baby is on the cover of 8 out of 10 news papers. I understand the national inquirer cover that...to the inquirer that is news. But seriously 8 out of 10 papers...really papers. WTF!!! I want NEWS from NEWSpapers not crap. I dont care that what's his name got custody of Anna's baby. I don't care about any of that. I want to know about the 10,000 people that died yesterday. I want to know about what cause that huge fire next to my church. I want to know that the idiot politicians are doing something. I want to know that the good politicians final passed a law that affects my education, or life. Hell I will even take major events that affect other peoples lives. But not this media driven shit about Anna Nicole or Britany Spears or Bush daughter. That shit doesn't matter. That shit is for the inquirer to cover. I WANT REALLY NEWS. We are the only country in the world that posts crap like that in our news papers. And if it isn't devestating or crap it isn't news. Well I got some news for you. How about telling me how people are celebrating National Aids day is the 10s of thousand, and that aids awareness is at an all time high. Or that this month is national health awareness month, and or country is suffering from obessity and things that we can do to help. How about talking about the major scandal that Citigroup is going through just because people are racist? How about someone mention how Israel is over stepping there boundries and we aren't doing anything to stop them? Real News...there is lots of it...use some!!!!

Yeah. I was just glad that yesterday's L.A. Times coverage of the shootings was almost the entire National section. Thankfully, "that dead blonde" as Joel reffers to her, has not been the focus (if at all mentioned) in L.A.'s papers and the few radio stations I listen to.

The only problem is everything costs money.... Media needs money to operate... Money comes from ratings... So pretty much, we are only fed what they think is worth money Evil or Very Mad

I recently heard that a lot of complaints from some of the older, more conservative population is that many young people now, regardless of political views, get their news info from sources like "The Daily Show" and "The Colbert Report".

The funny thing is that these same "young people" who rely on these two shows seem to have a better overall knowledge of National and World news than other folk other news source like traditional news shows (Fox news for example).

Just goes to show that it's easier to absorb information when you're being entertained.

Dunno about you Dave, but "traditional news" and the Fox network don't equate Confused

Yeah, "traditional" should have been in quotations.

Honestly, I can't watch Fox news anymore. If I want to know what's going on, I'll pick up a newspaper, look it up online, listen to "entertainment" talk shows and watch "comedy" news shows.

So glad i'm not the only one annoyed with this. The funny thing is that so many people complain about the news beginning trash these days but your right it that no one would read it if it wasn't entertaining. So the key is how do we make really news entertaining? hmmmm....i think i'll turn to Jon Stewart to answer this one...
