I'm pretty excited to see this despite the fact that they're almost assuredly going to screw it up. I'm trying to refrain from rereading the book until after I've seen the movie so I can go into it as unbiased as possible. Also, it comes out on my birthday. Woo hoo.

If you are refering to Neil Gaiman's "Stardust" then I may be able to offer a very general opinion. It was a good read overall with a nice classic English-fantasy backdrop. The kind where everything has a certain extra colour and beauty to it but there is most assuredly a price/dark side as well. I have the trades in my desk at home and enjoy taking a look at it here and there. The art is nice, the writing flows well, and the generational hop early on isn't jarring in the least.

The comic book version, drawn I believe by Charles Vess, came out after the regular print version. I personally have only read the book, but reading the comic might prepare both Dan and I for the movie version. I also completely agree with your synopsis of Stardust.

I know that I chose not to read the comic version of Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere because I didn't like the way they drew the characters. I'm hoping this will not happen to Stardust.

I also have higher hopes for this movie that Dan does.
