Ok, so "Classic" is a bit of a stretch, but I've been re reading Timothy Zahn's Star Wars Trilogy and while it may not be the greatest literature ever written, it may be be the best of the Star Wars Tie-ins. Strangely, it make me want to finish running my SW: RPG campaign. _________________ Mercy is the mark of a great man.

And Zahn's Thrawn Trilogy is definitely a Classic, Classic Star Wars. No need to go nitpicking. *subliminally throws in that the "Republic Commando books are worth a read* _________________ <(@_@<), <(@_@)>, (>@_@)>, <(@_@)>, <(@_~)>, <(@_@)>, <(@_@<)

Great fan fiction. It's still not canon. Let me put it this way: even if George Lucas himself wrote it, it would still be mere non-canonical fan fiction. _________________ Conan! What is best in life?

Just like Episodes 1-3 are just fan movies, right? _________________ "Addiction can neither be created nor destroyed, it can only be changed."

In regards to the Official Star Wars Cannon (that being the giant TOME which reads as such at Skywalker Ranch) both the Thrawn Trilogy and the "Republic Commando" stories are in there. _________________ <(@_@<), <(@_@)>, (>@_@)>, <(@_@)>, <(@_~)>, <(@_@)>, <(@_@<)

To Dave: BINGO! Those "movies" were written and directed by George "I just raped your childhood, how do you like that?!?" Lucas and they're definitely not what we call canon.

Artruo's point:
All things which LucasArts, and therefore George Lucas, deems as cannon are cannon.
Paul's Point:
Only the original three movies (IV, V, and VI) in their original form are cannon, because at some point George Lucas lost his mind and is no longer competent to declare things as such.
My Personal Opinion:
In the case of starwars, there's cannon, and there's Cannon. I support Lucas's rights as a creator to decide what counts and what doesnt in the universe that he created. However, everything really builds upon the original trilogy and falls apart without that background, ( or foreground, I guess, in the case of the prequils), thus one can choose to ignore everything else.
In the end it's all fiction anyway. It's kind of pointless to argue what did and didn't happen when none of it REALLY happened. Especially since star wars is transcending past fiction and into mythology and thus open to multiple interpretations. I was going to say more, but i figured i was getting rambley as it is. _________________ Mercy is the mark of a great man.

Dude, you're not "rambley" at all! You make a good point: Star Wars is mythology (if anybody has any doubts, just watch the special features disks and you'll find out just how much Lucas drew from Western myths and archetypes) and as such creates in us (its adherents) a desire to interpret and mold into our own particular world views - the cult of Darth Vader is one primary example of this. I'm not saying that episoades IV-VI are the last word on Star Wars. I mean, I really enjoyed KotOR. A lot. I think Chad Vader is hilarious. I'm just drawing a distinction between what is orthodox and what is not orthodox. _________________ Conan! What is best in life?

The Mandalorians (The Star Wars version of Spartans) influence/presence from the Old Republic/Sith Eras, up through the Fetts, and the Clone Troopers is one of my favorite things from the whole mythology. The more things pertaining to the Clones I read/play and how they lead into the Stormtroopers the more awesome they are, as well as the STs revisions from cheap fodder to badasses.
As a quick aside, Mandalorians, as a people, aren't determined by blood relation. Adoption (of war orphans or children with potential) as well as voluntary joining by like minded individuals is what keeps them going. There are some planets that hold beliefs that act as fertile soil for the Mandalorian way of life and as such produce entire families over generations that live that life, but blood is in no way a requirement. _________________ <(@_@<), <(@_@)>, (>@_@)>, <(@_@)>, <(@_~)>, <(@_@)>, <(@_@<)
