As part of 12 anniversary celebration for the "Command & Conquer" series, the Evil Madden Empire has decided to do something nice. For a change. , EA has gone and made available for download one of the cornerstones of the old school RTS scene. After "Dune 2", this is pretty much where the genre on PC got its start (by the same people too! Westwood Studios).
Hosting now on Gamespy's Fileplanet is the ISO (burnable disc-image) version of the "Command & Conquer Gold" game collection. This particular collection includes the first C&C game (subtitled "Tiberium Dawn), and the expansion "Covert Ops". The particular version of this (the gold edition has been around since the Windows 98SE days) is the exact same one from the "Command & Conquer: The First Decade" collector's pack. This means that among things like support for current graphics standards, there is the all important compatibility with Windows XP.
Marketing move to help promote their current effort "Command & Conquer 3" and its forthcoming expansion "Kane's Wrath"? More than likely, but why worry about it when you can have a good game for the price of some virtual real estate on your hard drive. Keep in mind that the file itself does weigh in at over a gigabyte, but thats because you are downloading exact copies of both discs which you'll need to burn in order to install. The instructions to do both are said to be included in the file.
Unfortunately characters in the full file path seem to have left me unable to direct link to its page, but I can direct you here. The file you want is "Command & Conquer The First Decade - Full Game (Complete)". Be advised you do need to either have a active Fileplanet Account or register for one to download from them. Its fast and free if you get a basic one and not one of them fancy schmancy "Founder's Club" ones. _________________ <(@_@<), <(@_@)>, (>@_@)>, <(@_@)>, <(@_~)>, <(@_@)>, <(@_@<) |
