Iraqi's government revoked Blackwater's (mercenary company that U.S. is using along U.S. troops in Iraq) license to operate in Iraq after a shootout left 8 innocent Iraq civilians dead.
I can't confirm the following online with a quick search, but I'm hearing on the radio that, essentially, the U.S. government just told the Iraqi government that they can't ban Blackwater, they have no authority.
If this is true, then the U.S. just told Iraq that they have no say over Iraq. Talk about a slap to the face.
Can anyone confirm, elaborate, or debunk this for me? I'll look mroe into it out of curiousity, but if someone can add to this, please do. _________________ "Addiction can neither be created nor destroyed, it can only be changed."

well... if they are hired by the US forces, then the US should be the ones to say if they stay or not. Personally I think that if there is another countries troops keeping your country secure... you have no control. _________________ Monkey of the technical type.

The problem here is that Blackwater contracts as diplomatic/base security. Telling Blackwater to pack up and get the hell out now means leaving a large section of delegates/politicians working for both the US and several other foreign countries/organizations and their offices/homes without protection. In this sense thanks to diplomatic laws (the US contingent is directly under the authority of the U.S. State Department) Iraq can request of the United States that they be pulled out/dismissed but they can't just directly order Blackwater to leave the country. Its like trying to enforce the local country's rules within a foreign embassy. The Iraqi government can push/negotiate for their dismissal and if the US says no this could negatively impact relations, but they'd have to start pushing the diplomats out as well to get those contractors to leave immediately. _________________ <(@_@<), <(@_@)>, (>@_@)>, <(@_@)>, <(@_~)>, <(@_@)>, <(@_@<)
