Right, basic rundown: Team Fortress was a team-play mod for Quake way back in the day. You could pick from various classes each with thier own gear and special abilities and you played in teams to either secure points, take flags, and fight to unleash various weapons of mass destruction into the battlefield (with most of your team making it to whatever means they planned to survive the holocaust, hopefully). Lots of demented good times and hours of awesome teamplay. Years later when Half-Life 1 came out a group of people got together and created a mod for it called Team Fortress 1.5, also known as Team Fortress Classic (TFC). More good times, but with better graphics, physics, more game modes (like stealing cases, knocking around giant balls, trying to assassinate a guy out from under the other team) and more freedom in terms of numbers of players and what you could do in terms of creating maps. This is a game If you like team-play games/mods this is one of the best, quickest options you have. More info can be found here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Team_Fortress_Classic

The reason I bring this up? Because with the upcoming second episode of the continuation of the "Half-Life 2" story, we will be treated to a updated release of Team Fortress entitled "Team Fortress 2", now with better graphics, facial expressions, and a visual style that looks rather Pixar-like. It looks like good stuff and should be worth a try for anyone interested. As part of their slow climb to the summit of release Valve has been releasing a series of teaser videos to highlight the game, the newest to be a class by class study to give a feel for personality. As those release I'll be dropping a link into this thread for anyone curious to take a look at. Even if its not your "thing", they are rather amusing.
Just to get things going though, the initial two trailers for it. The first just a quick rundown teaser of the classes involved and the second slightly more in-depth to give them personality:

There are much higher-res versions out there on the Inter-tubes (and on STEAM) if you wauld like to have them in a "prettier" version, but I think these get the point across just fine.

Heh, it IS almost like watching something outta Pixar. Looks like a lot of fun to boot.

"It cost $400,000 to fire this weapon... for 12 seconds."

Beautiful.

Ny already posted a thread with this in it, but for the sake of keeping these things in one area I'm going to place it here. He's awesome, he's handy, and having one on your team is like having two people:
Meet The Engineer

Just a quick "heads up" that roughly within 1 weeks time we shall see the release of the /next/ "Team Fortress 2" character class trailer. Who is to be the lucky recipient of this honor? None other than what was described by Valve as "Everybody's favorite One-Eyed Scot grenade thrower". Of course I'm talking about "The Demo Man".

Hmmm...black guy, big long mustache, Scottish?...

who does that remind me of?...Oh yeah:

Samuel L. Jackson as Elmo McElroy in "Formula 51"
Once the actual trailer is out I'll probably eat this post, link it here, and see if I can get Mike to write up something about "Formula 51".

Ladies and Gentlemen, as promised, I now bring you the next video in the series. He makes things go boom. He drinks like a bastard. He seems to be a /might/ touching about only having one eye: Meet The Demoman
