Here's an updated list of what I like to read, webcomic wise. All these have some influence on my own drawing of Squishy Comics and Direman. I also genuinely enjoy each and every one of these.

Squishy Comics - Geek/Office Humor. A group of friends realize their dream of owning and bungling through the operation of a business. They supposedly make web comics. They also have a succubus.

The Adventures of Dave the Direman - Gamer Humor. Dave the Direman and his friends comment, praise, and chastize all things gamer-related. What they lack in succubus they make up in tentacleye, direness, and VAWCE (Vague Ancient World Consuming Evil)

Questionable Content - Geek Humor. Follow the lives of Martin, his roommate Faye, and their Indie friends. The summary may be lacking, but the strip is really funny. Oh, and they have an AnthroPC (cute little PC robot)

Penny Arcade - Gamer Humor. They essentially started it all. They have... um... Divx and the Fruit "Friend"

PvP Online - Office Humor. They day to day going ons of a video game magazine company. They have a panda.

Diesel Sweeties - Geek Humor. Inter-Robot-Human romance. Pixelated Goodness. They have robots and kittens.

Wapsi Square - Other. Follow the lives of Monica and her friends as they realize that their mundane lives are anything but. They have the Aztec God of Alcohol.

Namir Deiter - Other/Furry. Web comic equivilant teen/young adult teevee shows. They have... um... catgirls.

Shortpacked! - Geek Humor. Toy store. Unhinged wage slaves. Stir and let simmer. They have a talking car.

Count Your Sheep - Other. Follow the lives of mother Laurie, daughter Katie, and their best friend Ship, their "imaginary" talking sheep. They have... well... an real imaginary best friend.

Sin Fest Other. Slick, Monica, Squiggly, and Criminy. Four friends stumbling through life while dealing with Dogmas of all kind. They have God, Satan, THE Chinese Dragon, and a dude on a cloud (Ny, you know what he/it's called).

What, no Ctrl+Alt+Del or Underscore? Actually, the lack of Underscore I can understand, but no CAD?

Madness, I say.

Well, Underscore explodeded. Is it back up yet?

Ctrl+Alt+Delete... I have to be honest and say I haven't given it a chance yet.

Underscore is sorta kinda a little bit back up. I also have to be honest and say I haven't got a whole lot of time to work on it, now that my studies are picking up (double IT and maths, not fun). Not to mention I've been away the past few days with work and a Duke of Edinburgh expedition. Long story, that last part...

G'night.

Do those really count?

In regards to influencing his view on webcomics? I would think so since he's seen the grimy, seedy underbelly of the webcomic. Traversing the labrynthine back end behind the curtain does strange things to ones mind. Dave has definitely been "changed" by it.

for once I agree with Heartbreak. Dave is the kind of guy who would join the Squishy Comics' fan club. You can't be your own fan!

Fine, I would too...

Ofcourse I would join the Squishy Comics fan club. I am a BIG fan of Squishy Comics.

Look at it this way: It'd be like being one of the guys who worked on an awesome video game who also happens to love to play said video game.

On a side note, I'm suprised to see the forums still active despite all the headaches. Hopefully said headaches will dissapear once we clean things up.

Sweet, we can have Dave whip up some art involving the Squishy Comics staff doing something like playing Rock band or shopping for kaiju and then seal it up behind a passworded page marked "For Fan Club Members Only". That way we can tout "EXCLUSIVE MEMBER CONTENT!!". Woo for The Shaft!!

Well, I actually met this comic through the guest strip you made for count your sheep.
I agree in having CRFH as one of my favorites (don't worry I have squishy as a favourite too), but you are leaving megatokyo and xkcd (a waaay geek comic) out.
I'm sorry to tell you that the first comic i ever read was Juanelo (sorry is a chilean comic, only for latin speakers, there you go Dave), i leave the url anyway, ooops I still don't have 15 post,..... well just google it!!.

Wow, you certainly have good taste in comics, Dave! Very Happy

(if you're not interested in my ramblings, stop reading here.) Wink

After reading this list a while ago, I ended up writing a list of my own, of comics I wanted to try and learn from/emulate when making my own comic. (The list of comics I read on a regular basis is way too long to list.)
I arranged them by category of 'what I like best about this series' (though there's some overlap, so I just went with the dominant impression) and ended up with:

(for neat supernatural-meets-ordinary content and feel)
Wapsi Square
Squishy Comics
Dave the Direman
Flaky Pastry
Aoi House
El Goonish Shive
Sequential Art
Corner Alley 13

(for sexy visuals)
Lowroad 75
Mine’s Bigger

(for Fantasy style)
Goblins
Flipside
Dominic Deegan
8-bit Theater

(For Slice of Life)
Questionable Content
PVP
Penny and Aggie

Hmm, it's still quite a long list. But I think it helped me narrow down what sort of things I'd want to have. The hard part, of course, would be actually writing it. Razz I'm still incredibly impressed by people who can make a really good comic and keep it going for a long time, like the Squishy Crew here.

(I'm making another post since I haven't been able to Edit posts recently)

I miscategorized Aoi House, I think. It should probably go under Sexy Visuals or Slice of Life, or perhaps just 'humor' because there really isn't any supernatural stuff. But it's funny. Very manga/anime humor.

Also I forgot a good fantasy comic, Inverloch. It's actually finished now, and the creator is making a new comic, but it's still definitely worth reading. It's the first comic I remember reading that was obviously pre-plotted ahead of time.

Man. I summon one succubus and I'm forever branded as "supernatural". She's people just like you and me. Well... not JUST like you and me... what with the horns and tail... but other than that, she's just like you and me :p
