According to Steven King himself, there are two schools of thought as to which of his works is the best. One is The Stand and the other his Dark Tower series. I would say I'm in the latter category as I really disliked The Stand. After reading the Gunslinger comics, which is an origin of the Dark Tower's protagonist, I finally decided to read the books which helped spawn them.
The series is now complete at 7 books and I'm currently plodding through the 5th one. Not because it's bad or anything, but I've burnt myself out on the series zipping through the first 4. If that has taught me anything, it's that sometimes you need a break from things to let it settle and then go back. Also, I hate King's writing style. It may be great for many but there's just something in his prose that I really can't define a reason why I dislike it. After I finish the Dark Towers series, I can honestly say I may never read another King book ever again. _________________ A bene placito
