So yeah. EA called Fox out for the "news" story that Fox ran about Mass Effect being porn marketed to kids.

There's more to it now, like Fox essentially blowing EA off, but it seems like EA isn't going to let it go lightly. Hopefully something good comes of this.

Quite a while ago, actually. Every time there is a shoot of some sort (now going for several years) they call him in under the title "Expert" to start ranting and decrying things that go against the Fox News agenda. Which is quite blatant. I mean, since its inception to a few years after that, they employed no brunettes on their news casts. It was nothing but blondes.

One of the few positive things EA has ever done. Good for them.

MORE!

Spike TV's Geoff Keighley, who recently appeared on Fox News to defend BioWare's Mass Effect against false allegations, has commented to GameDaily BIZ about the weird nature of the whole skit.

Speaking to our Media Coverage columnist Kyle Orland for a piece to be published with the Friday morning edition of the GameDaily BIZ newsletter (available here), Keighley said that initially he wasn't sure if he should even go on the air with Fox, but in the end he felt it was the right thing to do.

"We debated whether I should do that or not. In retrospect I'm glad I went on to at least try to set the record straight," he said. "I sort of felt a little bit like I was on an Onion News Network skit or something like that. It was a little off the wall, but at least I was there to ... represent the industry in a mainstream sense."

Keighley also expressed his disappointment at how Fox only seems to cover video games in a negative light. "It's sad that that's the only way Fox News will really cover games [with] controversy like that. I said to them afterwards, 'I'd love to come back on and talk about a game like Spore or other big games coming out this year.' We'll see if they invite me back; I hope so," he said. "But it's tough, and all this TV programming about games, I hope some of it is going to change the perception of the industry among the mainstream and grow this category, because I want to see more great coverage of games."

Wait.. so someone at Fox News made up some story full of false facts and information and lied on national tv? Well that doesn't happen all to often.. does it?

If Mass Effect is porn then Grand Theft Auto is the equivalent of Two Girls One Cup.

BTW, the above animatic was me when I first saw that clip. Yes, I actually split into two separate entities from the sheer horror.

ZOMGWTF... Jack Thompson sides WITH Mass Effect!?

Believe it or not Jack Thompson and I email sorta regularly. Granted he usually emails me bizarre, over-the-top press releases (which I often don't post) and I respond with disjointed quotes from movies, which I hope will one day remove that last wobbly hinge of his. (No luck yet).

Last week Jack emailed me a press release entitled "Grand Theft Auto IV to Be Released April 29; Culture War Begins Now" and after my typical poking, I got on to the topic of the Mass Effect controversy and was shocked, literally out of my socks, to find him defending the game... sort of. Apparently, even anti-gaming crusader Jack Thompson found self-help author Cooper Lawrence (who he refers to as a man), uninformed and the entire controversy contrived. Hellooooo kettle.

Wow, as usual you're grasping the real news here.

I'm surprised you haven't been looking into Mass Effect.

Why would you be surprised. I don't see any problem with it. The guy who shot his mouth off about it had no idea what the Hell he was talking about.

You mean you're OK with mass effect?

To: Brian

Of course. This contrived controversy is absolutely ridiculous. Report that, why don't you?

Consider it reported. Now where did my socks go?
