| So I guess its cool that Tolkien was a linguist and created these usable languages and wrote a story about it. My problem is there is too much walking in between events. I get it! They walked so much and for so long that events changed while they were doing so, That doesn't mean he had to write about what they did and what they talked about while there were walking! Damnit! Its boring! |

Its kind of "down time" of sorts. Like you said, he set out to write a hypothetical linguistic study and created a classic work of fantasy literature on which many books and money-leeching MMO's were to be based as a sort of byproduct. That was probably him trying to get as much talking and use of his languages into the story, and perhaps give a deeper look into the characters. Maybe.
Of course, what do I know? I'm one of those mongrel heathens that never actually read the thing |

You should. It's a great book.
And the movie's great too, even if it's not "by the book". I'm okay with that because the movie's great. Did I mention the movie is great? It's a great movie. |
