I've read quite a bit of manga, but the ones that stand out right now are:
"No Need for Tenchi" which was the book version of the OAV series, which remains my favorite version of the show. I usually get my stuff in video form if I can get my paws on it, but it was good enough to read through
"Bleach" was a fun read too but you have to realize you'll get a certain level of exposition and a anime-staple cycle of increasing power levels and new techniques. I like the characters a lot though, and all the little extras in the book make it worth reading.
The various "Robotech" series are always good reads. Lots of nice Studio Udon art you'd want as a poster or desktop wallpaper and really strong character interactions. One of the most stand out ones was "Love and War" which was a prequel series involving Roy Fokker going from pilot during the Unification Wars to test pilot for the initial Valkyrie fighters. Fun Fact: There was a second Grand Canon but it was destroyed when a orbital ARMD carrier was hijacked for its payload of Reflex Missles.
"The Two Faces of Tomorrow" was pretty good (though it was actually a manga adaption of a James P Hogan novel) The story starts with a AI running a orbital mass driver out in space used to propel raw materials to their processing points decides to fire them right at Earth instead. The whole sequence turns out to be a contained computer simulation but the findings prompt a second test. And A.I. named Spartacus is placed on a remote space station along with a team made up of scientists and marines tasked with pulling its plug to see how far it would go to defend itself and if it would harm humanity. Lets just say that things escalate.
"Kero Gunso" is awesome. Alien invaders come to Earth to subjugate it to their perverse will! The only real problem is that the group that is supposed to spearhead the invasion are slackers and totally inept to the task at hand. Oh, and they happen to look like bipedal frogs:)
The "Gunsmith Cats" series. Two girls, lots of souped up muscle cars, a whole lot of gun-fondling, and a load of scumbags and double crosses. Good stuff for anyone interested in either guns or cars. Lots of run ins with the mob and strong arm crime link bank jobs and hits. Guest staring Riding Bean at various points.
"Area 88"- A young pilot named Shin seems to have the world at his feet. Head of his class at flight school, about to marry the daughter of a comercial airline magnate who likes him, his whole life ahead of him. In a fit of jealousy his "best friend" gets him drunk and conscripts him into a foreign air force with the goal of taking everything that was Shin's. With no recourse with which to fight his signature on a contract he is forced to fly in a mercenary army in defense of the titular air base. Lots of dogfights and character drama. There was a manga which I read and liked, which spawned a 3 part anime that presented the main plotlines of the series, which in turn spawned the "Area 88" arcade game that was fun as hell, that brought into being the game "U.N. Squadron"for the SNES which was the rarest of occurences- A arcade port that was superior to the original, and finally a few years ago a second anime series which expanded the story to 12 episodes which retold the tale in far more depth. Yes, I own this second series and have all the previous versions of it in one form or another. Truly, it does rock....and actually may be the reason I fell so hard for the "Ace Combat" series of games... _________________ <(@_@<), <(@_@)>, (>@_@)>, <(@_@)>, <(@_~)>, <(@_@)>, <(@_@<)

According to Ny, Busiek's Conan is totally worth the read but after he left it slid into the proverbial pit.
I flipped through one or two of those issues and the kickass was seeping forth from the pages. _________________ <(@_@<), <(@_@)>, (>@_@)>, <(@_@)>, <(@_~)>, <(@_@)>, <(@_@<)
