Right, sort of stumbled onto this out of nowhere while looking up images of speed suits for a gag I was to include in a rather large post which got eaten when FireFox crashed on me...

As a gamer and a geek of sorts I'm into all sorts of things that can be described as "fun', "nerdy" and perhaps even "wacky". One of those things is Cosplay which is when people go and put on costumes/dress up as characters or archetypes from various genres and media. The most famous kinds are the Anime Cosplayers though people also dress up as characters from video games, movies, and even books and general fictions (generic dwarfs, spacemen, catgirls, and animals not really associated with anything to give examples) in some cases.

Personally I haven't really done this (...or have I?...) but I do enjoy seeing pictures of other people who do. There's usually a contagious enthusiasm which permeates the whole thing, like 20 people squeezed into a little room and hooting excitedly because their "Lord of the Rings" Mega-Marathon is about to get underway. The people who do this tend to be dedicated to the fun of it all and the outfits/suits run the gamut in terms of materials, execution, and intent. Whether its a ultra intricate mecha costume with tons of metal extensions and working servos for things like rotating gatling cannons, a costume that relies mainly on your props, several authentically styled uniforms worn by those who attended as a themed group or you're the guy who showed up wearing this alls fair and its all good.

Well...almost always...I'll spare you the pictures of the guys who dress up as Sailor Moon characters (Dave and James know what I'm talking about.) but sometimes it can go wrong. So very, very wrong

I may start up a thread/picture repository in regards to cosplay, but for now let us get to the link in particular that started this post. As the title states this was someone's write up from Otacon of last year. It is a very picture heavy post with the costumes running a nice gamut. Some of the more notable ones to look out for while you're viewing/reading: Day of the Tentacle Zelda-themed costumes, Guitar Hero playing Serv-Bot, Black Mario and the Shy-girls. The Monarch (Bonus!: Unrelated extra Venture Bros. love), and the very last picture in the article.

Please, enjoy

Thanks James for...stating the obvious. But I wholeheartedly agree with you.

I think you meant "scarred" but "scared" works just as well. The scars run deep, my friend.
